Monthly health expenditures of members of parliament surpass minimum wage
Health expenditures for members of parliament showed a record increase in January 2025. According to data released by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, health expenses per deputy increased by 211 percent in one year, reaching 26,222 TL. This amount drew attention by exceeding the minimum wage by 4,118 TL.
The Ministry of Treasury and Finance has shared data regarding the 2025 central government budget with the public. According to the released data, the state spent a total of 15 million 550 thousand TL in January 2025 for the treatment, medication, and medical supply expenses of members of parliament. This figure indicates a 206 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
According to the report by Nefes Gazetesi, while the health expenditure per deputy was 8,454 TL in January of last year, this amount rose to 26,222 TL in January 2025. Thus, the health budget allocated per deputy increased by 211 percent.
When a comparison is made, while the minimum wage was 17,002 TL in 2024, a deputy's health expenditure was nearly half of the minimum wage. However, by 2025, the health expenditure made for deputies reached 26,222 TL, exceeding the minimum wage by 4,118 TL.
