More than 19 thousand inmates could be released today
The 10th Judicial Package, which paves the way for the release of more than 19 thousand convicts, has been approved by the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. According to information received, the releases are expected to begin today.
The 10th Judicial Package, which includes fundamental changes to penal and execution processes, has been accepted by the General Assembly of Parliament.
With the new regulation, a path to release has been opened for thousands of convicts remaining in prisons. Granting the right to parole, especially to individuals involved in multiple crimes and those who have received repeat sentences, has been one of the most notable aspects of the implementation.
According to calculations, approximately 19 thousand 800 convicts will be released thanks to this regulation.
THE DECISION IS EXPECTED TO COME INTO EFFECT TODAY
According to information obtained from Ministry of Justice sources, the relevant law is expected to be approved by the President today and published in the Official Gazette.
As reported by NTV, simultaneously, the implementation regulation prepared by the Ministry will also be sent to prisons. Thus, it is anticipated that the releases will begin within the same day.
