MP proposes a new title for Gaziantep! The reason is 'Syria'

An unusual legislative proposal has come from DEVA Party Gaziantep MP Ertuğrul Kaya. Kaya requested that the title "minhar," which means hospitable, be granted to Gaziantep on the grounds that the people of Gaziantep have been hosting Syrians in a friendly manner since 2011.

Submitting a legislative proposal to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) for this reason, Kaya stated that the title of 'Gazi' (Veteran) was granted to Antep on February 8, 1921, due to the great resistance it showed despite being occupied by 3 different countries during the War of Independence, and requested that the title "minhar" (hospitable) be granted to the people of Gaziantep for the hospitality they have shown to Syrians since 2011.

SUBMITTED LEGISLATIVE PROPOSAL

Kaya did not just make a suggestion during his speech. He submitted a legislative proposal to the Speaker of the TBMM, requesting that the title 'minhar' be officially accepted for Gaziantep. In his speech regarding his proposal, the 48-year-old MP stated, "This august Assembly honored us by granting the title of 'Gazi' to the people of Gaziantep. Now, we believe the people of Gaziantep deserve to receive another honorable title from this august assembly," which sparked a major debate on social media.
