Municipality issues statement regarding the building that went viral on social media

Social media posts claiming that a building in Istanbul's Çekmeköy district appeared to be leaning drew significant attention. After the issue reached a wide audience, Çekmeköy Mayor Orhan Çerkez visited the site with his technical teams to conduct an inspection.

Following the field checks, Mayor Orhan Çerkez stated that the building has no legal issues and was constructed in accordance with its licensed and approved project. The building was also examined using drone footage.

In his statement, Mayor Çerkez said, "When we saw this on social media, we realized that the footage had been filmed in a specific way. In the checks we conducted with our technical team and directors, we determined that the building is perfectly fine and entirely in compliance with its project. Because the footage was taken from a reverse angle and the terrain is sloped, the building appears to be leaning. However, there are no issues."

Continuing his statement, Mayor Çerkez added, "Human safety is at stake here. Construction must comply with the project. The building inspection firm carries out its checks. Furthermore, our municipality's regional engineer, the Building Control Directorate, and our technical teams continue their inspections. I also came to check it on-site. The building is fully compliant with its license. No negative situation is observed."
