Murat Ongun points it out: Pro-government newspaper refutes Erdoğan's 'witness statements' on its front page

AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in his speech at his party's group meeting, responded to criticisms regarding the secret witness statements that form the basis of the investigations leading to the arrest of CHP's presidential candidate and İBB Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, stating, "CHP members reported the corruption in the İBB. They lined up to become informants. CHP members entered a race to report each other due to infighting over shares."

Murat Ongun, who was arrested as part of the investigation into the İBB, revealed that these words of Erdoğan were refuted by a report in the pro-government Sabah newspaper.

Stating that the report on the front page of Sabah newspaper refutes Erdoğan's claims that "CHP members reported the corruption in the İBB," Ongun said, "The President had said that all witnesses and informants were CHP members. Sabah newspaper, however, exposed 2 witnesses in its front-page story. Yet, these two witnesses are not CHP members. The President was misled."

Murat Ongun used the following expressions in his post:

- How did Sabah newspaper refute President Erdoğan?

- The President had explained the İmamoğlu investigation in his group speech yesterday, saying that all witnesses and informants were CHP members.

- The pro-government Sabah newspaper, however, exposed 2 witnesses in its front-page story. According to this, the names of the 2 witnesses who led to our arrest are Osman Subaşı and İsmail Yırtıcı.

- However, these two witnesses are not CHP members.

In this case; either the President was misled and given incorrect information, or Sabah newspaper refuted the President. We present this situation, which is in need of explanation, and the contradictory information to the public's discretion.
