Mustafa Varank gives a clear response to the alcohol debate at the NATO summit: It hasn't been served for 12 years

Following the NATO summit held in Ankara on July 7-8, whether or not alcoholic beverages were served at the official dinner hosted for leaders at the Presidential Palace became a subject of public debate.

The discussion was brought back to the agenda following evaluations made by journalist Yılmaz Özdil in his YouTube broadcast.

REMARKABLE QUESTIONS FROM ÖZDİL DURING THE BROADCAST

In his broadcast, Yılmaz Özdil stated that while details regarding the food served at the official dinner were reflected to the public, it was not disclosed whether alcoholic beverages were served.

In his speech, Özdil said, "We know item by item what was served at the dinner. We know everything from the butter to the tomato paste. But was alcohol consumed, my friend? Was alcohol served? We don't know that. Did Trump drink ayran while eating beef ribs? Did Macron drink sherbet while eating sea bass?"

STATEMENT FROM VARANK VIA SOCIAL MEDIA

Following Özdil's remarks, former Minister of Industry and Technology and AKP Bursa Deputy Mustafa Varank made a post on his social media account regarding the issue.

Quoting the post containing Özdil's words, Varank stated that no alcoholic beverages were served at the dinner held at the Presidential Palace within the scope of the NATO summit.

"ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES HAVE NOT BEEN SERVED SINCE 2014"

In his post, Mustafa Varank stated that the serving of alcoholic beverages at official receptions at the Presidency was abolished on August 28, 2014.

Varank used the following expressions in his statement:

"It was not consumed. Because as of August 28, 2014, the serving of alcoholic beverages was abolished. I have not encountered a single foreign statesman who was uncomfortable with this. The guest is subject to the host."
