Naci Görür cites that country as an example, saying 'let it be a lesson'
Seismologist Prof. Dr. Naci Görür shared a post on his social media account following the 7.4 magnitude earthquake in Taiwan. Görür pointed to Taiwan as an example for the authorities to learn from.
Görür addressed the authorities through the lens of the 7.4 magnitude earthquake in Taiwan. Görür stated, "If this had happened to us, we would have buried tens of thousands."
Prof. Dr. Naci Görür's post is as follows:
"Friends, let's have a heart-to-heart today. As you know, I have been persistently fighting for EARTHQUAKE-RESISTANT CITIES lately. I am going to many of our cities to explain this.
I am saying that if we want not to fear earthquakes and for OUR PEOPLE NOT TO DIE IN EARTHQUAKES, we must achieve this.
Now I want to give one country as an example to serve as a lesson: There was an earthquake in Taiwan yesterday. The magnitude of the earthquake was 7.4, and the number of people who died is only 9. If it had happened to us, we would have buried tens of thousands. After suffering a painful blow in the 1999 earthquake, Taiwan made the necessary preparations and made the country earthquake-resistant.
You see, a 7.4 earthquake and only 9 lives lost. Yes, it is a small place, but will we not be able to be like Taiwan?
How many more of our people need to die for us to take action? WE WANT EARTHQUAKE-RESISTANT CITIES."
