Naci Görür evaluates the building collapse in Küçükçekmece: 'I can't even imagine'

A 3-story building collapsed today in the Kartaltepe neighborhood of Istanbul's Küçükçekmece district. 1 person lost their life in the building rubble, and 8 people were rescued with injuries.

Geoscientist and earthquake expert Prof. Dr. Naci Görür, in a post regarding the building that collapsed in Küçükçekmece, stated, "If buildings are collapsing on their own today, I can't even imagine what will happen in an earthquake tomorrow."

Görür's post is as follows:

"Friends, a 3-story building collapsed in Küçükçekmece. This region is one that could suffer the most damage in an earthquake. During an earthquake, seismic waves will interact with the ground, and all structures on it will be tested. If buildings are collapsing on their own today, I can't even imagine what will happen in an earthquake tomorrow. What truly frightens me is what our Metropolitan Mayor has said. Despite his statement that he is ready to prepare Istanbul for an earthquake in cooperation with government bodies, the fact that there is no agreement yet and that no serious, planned, and continuous work has begun is the thought-provoking side of the matter. The people of Istanbul should take note of this and exercise their rights to oversight, inspection, and demand for the sake of their life safety, with love."
