Naci Görür lashes out: I respect everyone's opinion, but one should know their place

Geoscientist Prof. Dr. Naci Görür, who frequently makes headlines with his assessments, criticisms, and warnings following earthquakes in Turkey, responded to some comments on his social media account and expressed his reaction.

In his statement on social media, Naci Görür said, "Dear friends, I do not want to upset or hurt anyone, but remember this: Science cannot be produced on social media. If you have not received education in the relevant field or have not specialized in it, what you say is questionable. Earthquakes should not be discussed openly in the media, and predictions should not be made," he stated.

"Let me tell you one more thing. I respect everyone's opinion, but the person speaking should also know their place. Everyone can be more knowledgeable and skilled than us. This makes us happy, but this superiority is not determined by you or me. It is determined by universal standards of quality, production, and acceptance based on publications and citations.

Now I am addressing those who talk back to everyone for fame and glory. We have no interest in such things. We respect everyone and see them as better than ourselves. Our concern is not about who knew what, who was right, or who is better. Our only concern is that our people do not die. That is why we are working for earthquake-resistant cities. Those whose concern is to pit people against each other, or to say 'this one said it was wrong, that one said it was right,' please do not follow me. With love."
