Narin Güran murder: Nevzat Bahtiyar sentenced to 17 years in prison
In the second hearing of the retrial of Nevzat Bahtiyar, one of the detained defendants in the Narin Güran murder case, he was sentenced to 17 years in prison for 'aiding and abetting intentional homicide'.
The second session of the retrial of Nevzat Bahtiyar, whose 4.5-year prison sentence in the Narin Güran murder case in Diyarbakır was overturned by the Court of Cassation, has been held.
It was decided that Bahtiyar would be sentenced to 17 years in prison for the crime of 'aiding and abetting intentional homicide'.
Regarding the murder of Narin Güran, who went missing on August 21, 2024, in Tavşantepe Neighborhood of the central Bağlar district and whose lifeless body was found in Eğertutmaz Creek on September 8, 2024, the detained defendants mother Yüksel, brother Enes, and uncle Salim Güran had been sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for 'intentional homicide against a child in complicity', while Nevzat Bahtiyar had been sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison for 'destroying, concealing, or altering evidence of a crime'. The 1st Criminal Chamber of the Diyarbakır Regional Court of Justice had found the verdict given by the court of first instance to be in accordance with the law. The Office of the Chief Public Prosecutor at the Court of Cassation had requested the upholding of the aggravated life sentences given to mother Yüksel, brother Enes, and uncle Salim Güran, and the 4-year-and-6-month prison sentence given to Nevzat Bahtiyar in the Narin Güran murder case. The 1st Criminal Chamber of the Court of Cassation upheld the aggravated life sentences given to the detained defendants mother Yüksel, brother Enes, and uncle Salim Güran, but overturned the 4-year-and-6-month prison sentence given to Nevzat Bahtiyar in order for the act to be evaluated within the scope of 'aiding and abetting intentional homicide'. The retrial of Nevzat Bahtiyar began last week at the Diyarbakır 8th High Criminal Court. Following the defense statements, the court had adjourned the hearing until today.
Nevzat Bahtiyar, his lawyers, and the Güran family attended the hearing held again today.
