Testimony of brother-in-law detained in Narin murder case obtained: 'We started searching all together'

The testimony of Mehmet Şevket Kaya, the brother-in-law who was among those making frequent phone calls on August 21, the day Narin went missing, has been obtained.

It was learned that brother-in-law Kaya was arrested on charges of "misleading law enforcement officers," and in his statement, Kaya said, "I did not stir things up in the first days Narin went missing. On 22/08/2024, upon calling Salim Güran saying that Narin might be at the Dicle University Hospital Emergency Department, members of the Güran family arrived in two cars. I called them without having any information. I regret misleading them and the law enforcement officers," he stated.

According to the report by Mustafa Şekeroğlu from Habertürk, 4 more people were detained by the gendarmerie following the analysis of HTS records and signal base information obtained from the past. The 4 suspects referred to the courthouse were released after their statements were taken.

According to HTS records, the intense phone traffic between members of the Güran family on August 21, when Narin was murdered, September 2, when uncle Salim was arrested, and September 8, when the body was found, drew attention. It was determined that one of the people involved in these calls was Salim Güran's brother-in-law, Mehmet Şevket Kaya.

It has emerged that there is a remarkable official report regarding Mehmet Şevket Kaya, who was arrested within the scope of the investigation on charges of "aiding a criminal" and "destroying evidence of a crime."

It was determined that during the search efforts for Narin, gendarmerie teams filed an official report against Kaya on the allegation of "misleading law enforcement officers." The report, which also includes information about withholding information and a fire that broke out, has been entered into the investigation file.

The detailed testimony of Mehmet Şevket Kaya, who is among those arrested, has emerged.

Kaya stated the following in his testimony:

"I gave my statement of my own free will without any pressure, and I repeat it exactly. I have only been using the 0535 …. GSM line mentioned above for a long time. I do not have any other GSM line that I use.

I reside in the rural Tavşantepe neighborhood located in the Bağlar district of Diyarbakır province. I work as a private security guard at a site in the city center of Diyarbakır. On 21/08/2024, I left my workplace at 08.00 following the end of my shift and came to my residence in Tavşantepe neighborhood. After arriving in the neighborhood around 09.00, I slept and rested until around 12.00.

Later, since the wedding of Uğurcan Güran, the son of my brother-in-law Erhan Güran, was to take place on 25/08/2024, I took my wife Azize Kaya and my children Eda Nur Kaya and Elif Kaya and went shopping for the wedding at a place referred to as the health center in the center. Later, although I cannot remember exactly, we returned to Tavşantepe neighborhood around 18.00 and came to our residence.

"SHE ASKED IF SHE WAS AT HOME"

When we arrived at our residence, we started preparing dinner. While we were eating, Muhammet, the son of my brother-in-law Arif Güran, came and asked my wife if Narin was at our house, and my wife said that Narin was not at our house. Later, we went out with Muhammet and started searching for Narin all together.

When we went to the area where the school is, it was around 19.00. When we arrived in front of the school, there was a crowd and everyone was talking about Narin being missing. After searching for Narin all night and not finding her, we returned to Arif's house and started waiting. Later, we went to our residence. On 22/08/2024, I participated in search activities within the neighborhood.

However, although we searched for Narin both that day and in the following days, we could not find her. I did not stir things up in the first days Narin went missing.
