Narin murder confessor Nevzat Bahtiyar reportedly earned 300,000 lira a month: 'If I hadn't taken the body, this man would have destroyed my family'

The legal process regarding the murder of 8-year-old Narin Güran, which has plunged Turkey into mourning, continues. While it has not yet been fully clarified by whom, how, or why the murder was committed, 24 people, including members of Narin's immediate family, have been detained. A person named Nevzat Bahtiyar, acting as a confessor, claimed that Narin's body was given to him by the uncle, who is the village headman, in exchange for 200,000 lira.

Nevzat Bahtiyar, who was arrested yesterday on charges of "complicity in intentional murder of a child," changed his statement, claiming that the uncle, Salim Güran, who was arrested on September 2, told him, "I killed Arif's daughter, and you will take this body and dispose of it. Otherwise, I will kill you and your family." Bahtiyar stated, "I had not mentioned this in my previous statement because I was afraid of Salim Güran."

Nevzat Bahtiyar's brother also spoke to A Haber. Stating, "My brother is guilty because he took the body to the stream," Bahtiyar's brother noted the following:

"I told my brother to tell the truth. My brother told me, 'I was coming from above, and the muhtar flashed his lights at me. I stopped. The muhtar asked me if I had a sack in my car. I thought he needed a sack for agricultural work. Then, when I saw the body, I got scared and pulled back. The muhtar said, "I'll give you 200,000 lira." I didn't accept it. He said, "Think of your family, take this body away from here." If I hadn't taken this body, this man would have destroyed my family,' he said.

My brother said he went to the police station and gave a statement. My brother doesn't need money; he earns more than 300,000 a month, what could he need? We were like family with the muhtar, especially the muhtar and my brother were like brothers. My brother is guilty because he took the body to the stream."
