New development in the case regarding the annulment of İnan Kıraç's marriage: Appellate court has the final say
The marriage of prominent businessman İnan Kıraç had been annulled by a court ruling on the grounds that he lacked legal capacity. With the appellate court upholding this decision, the process has officially concluded.
With a new decision by the Istanbul Regional Court of Justice, the ruling to annul the marriage of businessman İnan Kıraç, which took place in recent years, on the grounds that it was unlawful, has become final. The primary reason cited is that Kıraç had lost his power of discernment at the time of the marriage.
The initial decision regarding İnan Kıraç's marriage was made by the Istanbul Anatolian 18th Family Court. Following the evidence obtained, legal requirements, and expert reports, the court determined that Kıraç did not possess legal capacity at the time of the marriage and ruled that the marriage be considered invalid. At the same time, the Forensic Medicine Institute report included in the file concluded that the businessman not only lacked the power of discernment at the time of the marriage but that it was also necessary for a guardian to be appointed for him immediately.
At the beginning of the process, İpek Kıraç, the daughter of İnan Kıraç, had applied to the judiciary with the claim that her father lacked legal capacity. Doubts regarding the marriage of İnan Kıraç, who sat at the wedding table with Emine Alangoya on December 20, 2024, occupied both his family members and the public for a long time. Expert reports were in line with confirming İpek Kıraç's claims.
During the judicial process, the court first appointed a temporary guardian, and subsequently, the Anatolian Civil Court of Peace intervened for the appointment of a permanent guardian, and the guardianship of Kıraç was finalized. The final verdict was announced on July 18, 2025, and it was decided that the marriage was invalid.
The 38th Civil Chamber of the Istanbul Regional Court of Justice, which intervened as a result of the appeals filed, examined the local court's decision in terms of both procedure and substance. The panel emphasized that the judges had collected the evidence correctly and that there were no errors in the reasoning of the decision or the application of the laws. As a result of this evaluation, a decision was reached to reject the request and uphold the decision of the first-instance court. Thus, the annulment decision has become final.
