New development in the 'Diyarbakırlı Ramazan Hoca' murder case

The prosecutor's office has prepared an indictment against the defendant Erkan Baykut, seeking a life sentence for the crime of "intentional killing." In his statement, Baykut explained that he mistook Pişkin for a person he knew as Saboor Muradı, whom he claimed had harmed him in the past, and that he went to the victim's workplace and stabbed him for this reason.

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has completed the investigation into Erkan Baykut, who was arrested for the murder of Pişkin, who operated a tea house on Kocamustafapaşa Street in the Cerrahpaşa neighborhood, during a knife attack at his workplace on January 31.

The indictment prepared as a result of the investigation states that upon receiving a report of a stabbing incident on the day of the event, police arrived at the workplace named "Diyarbakırlı Ramazan Hoca'nın Yeri" and were informed that Pişkin had been stabbed and taken to the hospital.

The indictment, which notes that investigative procedures were initiated within this scope, records that Pişkin lost his life at the hospital where he was taken.

The indictment includes the statement of İbrahim Baştürk, who was questioned as a "person with knowledge" regarding the matter.

Baştürk stated that at around 13:40, he heard noise coming from the workplace named Diyarbakırlı Ramazan Hoca from the pharmacy located next to the scene, and that while he was going there to check on the sounds, he saw a male individual with a knife in his hand running away from inside the tea house.

According to the security camera footage examined in the indictment, it was noted that the defendant Erkan Baykut, who fled the scene, used public transportation to go to his residence in Beyoğlu, and that police teams who went to the address caught the defendant hiding in his bathroom.

DEFENDANT CLAIMS IN HIS STATEMENT THAT HE MISTOOK PİŞKİN FOR AN AFGHAN NATIONAL

In the indictment, it is stated that in his statement taken at the police station, defendant Baykut claimed he did not know the victim Pişkin, but mistook him for a person he knew by the name Saboor Muradı, whom he alleged was someone who sold drugs and committed sexual abuse.

Stating that Muradı was a person who worked with his father in 2017 without any official status, defendant Baykut noted that during this time, Muradı lived at an address in Zeytinburnu with his brothers and other individuals of Afghan nationality.

Defendant Baykut claimed that he met these individuals because he also went to work with his father, and that these people hosted him in their homes and gave him drugs.

Claiming that one evening when these people gave him drugs again, he woke up and found himself facing a being in human form they described as the "Antichrist," Baykut argued that there was a knife on the table at that moment, the tip of the knife was pointing at him, and therefore he thought these people had done him harm while he was not in his right mind.

Defendant Baykut claimed that after the times he slept near these people, he noticed some differences in his own body and realized that these individuals had drugged him and sexually assaulted him, saying that after realizing this situation, he distanced himself from these people but did not share these events with his family or judicial authorities.

SAW RAMAZAN PİŞKİN ON SOCIAL MEDIA FOR THE FIRST TIME

Claiming that these people entered his dreams and tried to pull him back to them, defendant Baykut explained that this process ended when he devoted himself to the Quran and strengthened his faith, and that his closeness with these individuals lasted from 2017 to 2021.

Baykut said that he had not seen the person named Muradı since 2021, but that he knew Ramazan Pişkin as this person, and that he first saw Pişkin on social media in 2021.

Stating that he saw Pişkin at the workplace named Ramazan Hocanın Yeri two months before the incident and that he initially thought he was a good teacher when he went to talk to him, Baykut argued that he later realized during the conversation that this person was actually Saboor Muradı.

Baykut noted that upon this, he remembered the harm Muradı had caused him in the past, and stated that on the day of the incident, he left his home in Kasımpaşa and went to the victim's workplace, intending to throw a stone at Pişkin and injure him.

Stating that when he arrived at the workplace, Pişkin, who was sitting alone in a chair, stood up, Baykut explained that upon feeling that Pişkin was Muradı, he lost control and threw a stone, and that he stabbed him thinking he might harm him as the victim came toward him, after which he fled the scene.

PİŞKİN'S BROTHER FILED A COMPLAINT AGAINST THE DEFENDANT

The indictment states that in light of the evidence collected, there is sufficient suspicion to open a public lawsuit against defendant Baykut for committing the crime he is accused of.

In the indictment, which states that the victim's brother Mehmet Pişkin filed a complaint against the defendant, it was requested that defendant Baykut be sentenced to life imprisonment for the crime of "intentional killing."

The prepared indictment was accepted by the Istanbul 3rd High Criminal Court, where it was sent for evaluation. The defendant will appear before the judge in the coming days.
