New era for supermarkets: They will be closed on Sundays!

Leading organizations in the retail sector have adopted a joint stance on closing chain supermarkets on Sundays. It was announced that a consensus was reached on this issue during a workshop organized in cooperation with the Federation of Turkish Retailers (TPF) and the Confederation of Turkish Tradesmen and Craftsmen (TESK).

"SUNDAY WITH FAMILY" MEETING

New regulations regarding the retail sector were discussed at the workshop held under the title "Sunday with Family: Holiday Together, Strong Society." It was reported that public institutions, the academic world, non-governmental organizations, and media representatives also attended the meeting. During the workshop, it was emphasized that a Sunday holiday is an important necessity for social life.

Ömer Düzgün, Chairman of the Board of the Federation of Turkish Retailers, stated in his statement after the workshop that a critical process has been entered for the sector. Düzgün expressed that a consensus has been reached for chain supermarkets to be closed on Sundays and that the decision to be made by the Ministry of Trade is awaited for the practice to be implemented.

NEW ERA FOR SMALL TRADESMEN

It was noted that the decision taken at the workshop is important for small businesses such as grocers, greengrocers, and butchers, which struggle to continue their operations against chain supermarkets that have spread into neighborhoods. It was stated that the regulation could contribute to balancing the competitive conditions for small tradesmen.
