New indictment in Atlas Çağlayan murder: Prison sentence requested for suspect's father
Following allegations that the knife used in the fatal stabbing of Atlas Çağlayan in Istanbul belonged to the suspect's father, a prison sentence has been requested for the father.
A notable development has occurred in the investigation into the fight in Güngören, Istanbul, which resulted in the death of 17-year-old Atlas Çağlayan. The prosecutor's office took action after it was alleged that the switchblade-like knife used in the incident belonged to Yusuf Ç., the father of the murder suspect E.Ç.
The prepared indictment includes witness statements gathered as part of the investigation launched following the incident on January 14. While witnesses stated that the knife used during the fight belonged to Yusuf Ç., Yusuf Ç. denied the accusations against him. In his statement, Yusuf Ç. claimed he was in prison on the day of the incident, insisted that the knife did not belong to him, and stated that he did not accept the witnesses' allegations.
On the other hand, the prosecutor's office recorded that Yusuf Ç. was in prison at the time of the crime and is currently being held in a different prison. The criminal report in the file determined that the tool used in the incident was a prohibited switchblade under Law No. 6136 on Firearms, Knives, and Other Implements.
According to the indictment completed by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, a prison sentence of 6 months to 1 year is requested for Yusuf Ç. on charges of "violating Law No. 6136." The prepared file was accepted by the Bakırköy 36th Criminal Court of First Instance, and the judicial process has begun.
