New move for convention in CHP after 833 signatures: All eyes on that date

Following the absolute nullity decision issued by the Ankara Regional Court of Justice regarding the CHP's 38th Ordinary Convention, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu was brought to the head of the party.

While the Kılıçdaroğlu administration did not put the convention calls on the agenda, citing the injunction decision issued by the court, delegates supporting the CHP's elected Chairman Özgür Özel began collecting signatures for an extraordinary convention through a notary starting June 1.

833 NOTARIZED SIGNATURES DELIVERED TO HEADQUARTERS

The number of signatures collected during the process reached 1,133. However, with 170 delegates from Istanbul withdrawing their signatures, the number of notarized signatures was finalized at 833.

The collected signatures were delivered to the CHP Headquarters on June 17. Stating that the party organs elected at the 38th Ordinary Convention held on November 4-5, 2023, are still in office, the delegates granted the headquarters a 10-day period to process the signatures.

JUDICIAL PROCESS TO BEGIN AFTER THE DEADLINE EXPIRES

According to the report by Mustafa Bildircin from Birgün, the roadmap to be followed after the deadline, which will expire on June 26, has also become clear. If the signatures are not processed, the delegates will apply to civil courts of peace on the grounds that the party charter has been violated.

In the applications, it will be requested that the necessity of convening an extraordinary convention be determined. The court will first examine whether the required delegate majority has been achieved. Following the evaluation, if it is concluded that the conditions have been met, a decision may be issued for the convening of an extraordinary convention.
