New regulation for stray animals from the Saadet Party!

Saadet Party Ankara Deputy Mesut Doğan stated that the legislative proposal his party submitted to Parliament regarding stray animals was prepared with a perspective that centers on human life and considers animal welfare. Doğan emphasized that the issue of stray animals has been ignored and that calls for solutions have been met with indifference, stressing that the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) is the right place to produce a solution on this matter.

The key provisions in the legislative proposal prepared by the Saadet Party are as follows:

The practice of releasing stray animals back onto the streets after they have been neutered will be changed. Neutered stray animals will no longer be released back onto the streets.

In addition to existing shelters, care homes, and living spaces, more living areas will be established, and the conditions of these facilities will be improved. All locations will be monitorable via live feed 24/7.

Animal welfare organizations that collect donations will be required to establish shelters and care homes.

A mandatory training requirement will be introduced for personnel working in shelters, care homes, and living spaces, and it will be made easier for volunteers to take an active role in these areas.

The sale of pets will be brought under control, and pet adoption will be prioritized. The unauthorized sale of cats and dogs will be prevented, and deterrent penalties will be applied in this regard.

All pets will be registered with microchips, thereby preventing issues such as them getting lost or being abandoned on the streets.

Dangerous prohibited breeds will not be permitted, and penalties for these animals will be increased. Owners will be held responsible for attacks by dangerous prohibited breeds.

More deterrent penalties will be applied to those who commit violence, torture, cruelty, or mistreatment against animals.
