New regulation for tax-free vehicle purchases: Convenience for that group!

With the latest legislative amendment passed in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), an important step has been taken regarding the acquisition of tax-free vehicles by disabled citizens. Thanks to the change, the confusion experienced by some disabled individuals has been resolved, and those who were previously outside the system have become eligible to benefit from this right.

SCOPE EXPANDED IN THE LAW

Individuals who cannot obtain a driver's license due to an orthopedic disability and have a disability rate of over 40 percent will now be able to purchase designated vehicles without paying the Special Consumption Tax (ÖTV). Thus, new opportunities have been provided for individuals with severe mobility restrictions who could not benefit from previous legal regulations regarding tax-free vehicle purchases.

RIGHT TO PURCHASE A VEHICLE ONCE EVERY TEN YEARS

Another important innovation brought by the regulation is that those who wish to benefit from this right will only be able to purchase a tax-exempt vehicle once every ten years. In other words, individuals with a disability rate of more than 40 percent who cannot obtain a driver's license will be able to own a vehicle by using the tax exemption only once within a ten-year period.

The new regulation offers an important solution, especially for citizens who cannot officially obtain a driver's license due to their orthopedic disability. These individuals will now be able to benefit from the tax advantage in vehicle acquisition through their relatives or guardians within the conditions determined by the law.

2026 PRICE CEILING AND DOMESTIC PRODUCTION REQUIREMENT

In the law, the price ceiling determined for vehicles that can be purchased tax-free for the year 2026 has been set at 2 million 873 thousand 900 TL. In addition, a requirement has been introduced for citizens who will benefit from this right that the vehicle to be purchased must be at least 40 percent domestically produced.

Thus, while the aim is to support the domestic automotive sector, both the accessibility of disabled individuals is increased and economic benefits are considered.

With the new regulations introduced, an important social problem that has been waiting for a solution for a long time has been resolved. With the law coming into effect, disabled citizens who meet the application requirements will be able to make their applications within the determined framework.
