New regulation regarding APP license plates

Minister of Interior Mustafa Çiftçi has introduced a new regulation concerning drivers using APP (European Press Plate) license plates. It has been reported that until April 1, 2026, inspections for non-standard license plates will be conducted solely for guidance purposes, and drivers will not be subject to fines. This decision provides relief to drivers while ensuring that inspections are carried out without penalties.

APP LICENSE PLATE FINE: 140 THOUSAND LIRA

With the updated traffic law, penalty applications for vehicle owners using APP license plates had also become stricter. Fines of up to 140 thousand lira were being issued for fake APP plates printed through illegal means, and vehicles were being banned from traffic. Furthermore, drivers were being fined 280 thousand lira for a second violation and were being charged with forgery of official documents.

DRIVERS ARE TAKING STEPS TO CHANGE PLATES

Drivers using APP license plates are required to apply to provincial or district traffic registration offices to change their plates.

As a first step, a process must be initiated regarding the loss of the plates, and transactions must be completed at a notary public with the documents obtained from traffic registration. Payment is made online with the receipt obtained from the notary for plate printing. Subsequently, procedures are initiated at the plate printing workshop to have the new plate printed.

The penalty-free inspection period, which will continue until April 1, 2026, offers drivers the opportunity to comfortably complete their APP license plate replacement procedures.
