A new roadmap for Turkey from Ekrem İmamoğlu: He announced a major reform program!
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is currently detained at Silivri Prison, wrote in an article: "A new era is beginning for Turkey, one in which justice and democracy are demanded. We are not just sitting back and watching our future. We have prepared a major reform program. We will create a democratic state, a peaceful society, and a climate where the nation feels equal and free."
CHP presidential candidate and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu announced his major reform program in an article he penned from Silivri Prison, where he is currently detained.
“A democratic, strong and effective state, a peaceful and prosperous society, equal and free citizens”, İmamoğlu listed his reforms under these headings and stated, “A new era is beginning for Turkey, one in which justice and democracy are demanded.”
In the article he sent to Sözcü newspaper, İmamoğlu wrote, “We will put an end to polarization and culture wars. We will rely on our commonalities stemming from sharing a common history, a common homeland, and our crescent-and-star flag. We will guarantee the fundamental rights and freedoms of all citizens and remove the restrictions on freedom of expression and association. We will recognize being a citizen of the Republic of Turkey as the most fundamental common denominator.”
Commenting on the new peace process and the terrorist organization PKK's decision to lay down arms and disband, İmamoğlu remarked, “The dissolution of the terrorist organization and its laying down of arms offer us new opportunities.”
Arguing that this development is a very important opportunity on the path to becoming a fair and democratic country, İmamoğlu also touched upon the debates surrounding the Treaty of Lausanne. İmamoğlu delivered the message, “We will continue to strongly uphold the Republic and Lausanne.”
In the article he wrote from prison, İmamoğlu also explained the framework of the policies they would implement and listed some of his promises.
