Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu made statements regarding social media usage for those under 18. The Minister stated that they have proposed banning social media use for those under 13 and requiring parental consent for users between the ages of 13 and 16.
Speaking on the introduction of restrictions for those under 18 regarding social media usage, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu stated, "We have reached a general consensus that social media use between the ages of 13 and 16 should be subject to parental consent, and that it should not be permitted for those under 13."
WE HAVE DETERMINED A ROADMAP
Uraloğlu said that they are evaluating age restrictions on social media primarily with the Ministry of Family and Social Services, and in a general sense with the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Justice.
Stating that they have met with teams from the Ministry of Family and Social Services, Uraloğlu said, "We have determined a roadmap. We have made our preparations to put it into text. We have reached a general consensus that social media use between the ages of 13 and 16 should be subject to parental consent, and that it should not be permitted for those under 13. We will flesh this out and it will be brought to the discretion of our Parliament by our AK Party group. We will have implemented such a regulation within this year."
