New statement from Abdulkadir Uraloğlu regarding the closure of Discord!

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu spoke regarding the access ban imposed on Discord.

Reminding of the content that has emerged on Discord in recent days, Uraloğlu said, "Unfortunately, had the events we have experienced in the last few days not occurred, we might have been accused of having a prohibitive mentality for imposing an access ban on Discord today."

Uraloğlu stated the following:

“Discord was closed by the decision of the Ankara 1st Criminal Court of Peace. This is a completely closed system. You cannot enter and exit as you please. Unfortunately, our security units cannot perform all kinds of inquiries there. However, we can only intervene when those who use it file complaints with us.

Unfortunately, had the events we have experienced in the last few days not occurred, we might have been accused of having a prohibitive mentality for imposing an access ban on Discord today.

Today, these events have occurred, and everyone wants it to be closed. In that case, we need to act together with all segments of society, especially families.

We may not be able to know what is happening in a medium we cannot enter. 

We were forced to impose an access ban because Discord refused to share IP addresses and content with our security units.

But it is beneficial for us to manage the perception and awareness in society together.”

In response to the question, “Will there be a regulation on internet bills?”, Uraloğlu replied, “It is a completely free market; we do not have regulatory authority.”
