New statement from Minister Tekin regarding teacher appointments and the curriculum
Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin made important statements regarding teacher appointments and the new curriculum during a program he attended.
Minister Tekin stated, "I am the person following this most closely. We have discussed it in every setting. We are conducting our work on this matter."
Tekin said, "We have shared the number of positions we need with our Minister of Treasury and Finance and our President.
After the Cabinet meets and our President makes the final decision, we will make our announcement."
CRITICISMS REGARDING THE NEW CURRICULUM
Minister Tekin also made a statement regarding the draft curriculum, for which the public review period will end on Friday.
Tekin said, "We will look at the intensity of the feedback received. If none comes, we will have completed the process. We are open to constructive criticism, but we do not find the language of 'we will not let you do this' to be appropriate."
Regarding criticisms that the review period was too short, Minister Tekin responded, "I have a grievance against those who say it was rushed; we were almost in a mode of begging for them to contribute, we worked in a 'please come and let's do this' mode, but they did not contribute to us.
I have expressed this in every setting since June. We said we were still waiting for calls, suggestions, and thoughts in mid-November. We said it again in March. I thank the NGOs, which can be counted on the fingers of one hand, that contributed to us." Tekin also denied allegations that the printing of textbooks had begun before the curriculum was finalized.
