New statement on Sırrı Süreyya Önder's health: 'The right side of his heart has begun to contract'

In the latest statement from the hospital regarding the health status of Sırrı Süreyya Önder, who is in intensive care, it was said, "The right side of the heart has begun to contract. His consciousness is impaired, and his reflexes are not at the level we desire."

The statement issued by the hospital included the following:

Our patient, Mr. Sırrı Süreyya Önder, is on his 6th day in our hospital's Intensive Care Unit today; his life is still in danger; he is at very high risk and the intensive care treatment process is ongoing.

On Saturday, our cardiac surgeons performed a planned revision on Mr. Sırrı, and the patient's chest was opened again. It was observed that the surgical area inside was clean, there was no infection in the tissues, and there was no surgical area that was bleeding. Most importantly, we saw that the right heart has begun to contract.

The right heart, which barely contracted during the first surgery, has begun to contract significantly, if not fully. An arterial pulse trace has now begun to appear on our bedside monitor. Our patient's hemodynamics are stable, and he is still under ECMO (heart support device) support and inotropic support treatment.

However, when he had some bleeding from his drain sites yesterday, he was taken for revision again to be checked and evaluated. The surgical areas were again clean; it was seen that there was some bleeding from the holes of the sternum wires. It was brought under control with stitches and closed.

However, our patient's consciousness has been impaired since the moment he first arrived, and his reflexes are not at the level we desire. Cerebral blood flow is present via transcranial Doppler. Our neurological evaluations and studies on the matter are continuing.

For this reason, as we stated in our press release when he had his first surgery, our serious concerns regarding his neurological status continue with high risks. We will continue to wait patiently.
