New step in Ahbap investigation: Assets of the association and suspects seized

A critical new development has occurred in the AHBAP Association investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Following the arrest of 14 people, including association president Haluk Levent, a precautionary measure has now been placed on the assets of the AHBAP Association and all suspects by the prosecutor's office. The investigation file includes serious accusations, particularly regarding the management of earthquake aid and the disposal of association assets.

EARTHQUAKE FUNDS AND "PERSONAL WEAKNESSES" UNDER SCRUTINY

The prosecutor's office document, which served as the basis for referring Haluk Levent to court with a request for arrest, specifically highlighted the management of the massive funds, amounting to billions of liras, collected after the 2023 earthquake.

The prosecutor's referral document included the following striking statements:

"It has been understood that there are strong indications suggesting that the aid was not managed or spent in a transparent and auditable manner, and that these suspicions and evidence have been strengthened as a result of both the suspect's personal weaknesses and economic situation, as well as the findings made in the completed MASAK report."

"NO STATUS AS AN ASSOCIATION WORKING FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT"

Other important findings highlighted in the investigation file concern the association's financial structure and real estate transactions:

It was stated that the AHBAP Association does not officially hold the status of an "association working for the public benefit."

Concrete findings were made that the association's net assets were intentionally depleted over time and that the association's real estate properties were rapidly disposed of.

The Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK) continues to conduct a multi-faceted examination of all the association's bank accounts, money transfers, and evidence collection processes.
