New traffic sign introduced: What does it mean?

European Union countries are taking a new step to support environmental sustainability and improve traffic safety. The traffic sign known as the 'white diamond,' which has been in use in France for some time, will now be implemented in other EU countries as well. In lanes where this sign is present, vehicles with only one person inside will be prohibited from traveling.

This practice encourages carpooling in order to ensure more efficient use of roads and to reduce harmful emissions. In lanes marked with the white diamond logo, it will become mandatory for vehicles to have at least two people inside. France aims to find solutions to environmental problems with this practice. Experts state that currently only 3 percent of French people carpool, and there are plans to triple this rate by 2027.

EFFECTS ON TURKEY

Under this new traffic regulation in Europe, police will be able to fine drivers traveling alone on roads with the white diamond sign 135 euros. However, these restrictions will only cover EU member states. Although Turkey has adopted many traffic rules within the framework of EU harmonization laws, this new regulation will not bring a direct change for Turkey.
