A fire that broke out for an unknown reason in Istanbul's Kağıthane district spread to 3 apartment buildings. 4 people were trapped in the fire but were rescued by the intervention of firefighting teams.
In Istanbul's Kağıthane district, a fire that broke out for an as-yet-undetermined reason engulfed a 7-story apartment building. The fire spread to 2 adjacent buildings, and 4 citizens trapped in one of the apartments waited minutes to be rescued.
The fire occurred at approximately 04:30 on Yahyakemal Neighborhood, Okul Street. The fire, which started for an unknown reason, quickly spread from the 7-story apartment building to the roof of the adjacent building and engulfed the upper floors of the two buildings on either side. The fire caused residents to evacuate in a state of panic. Local residents immediately reported the situation to police, fire, and medical teams. Firefighting teams, with assistance from surrounding districts, intervened in the fire that had engulfed the 3 buildings. The teams, working intensely using cranes and ladders, attempted to bring the fire under control. During this time, 3 people trapped on the top floor of one apartment and 1 person on the middle floor waited minutes to be rescued. As a result of the efforts of the firefighting teams, the trapped citizens were rescued from the fire safe and sound. Those affected by smoke were treated by medical teams. While the flames were brought under control, there was no loss of life in the fire, though material damage occurred in the buildings. The roof of one building to which the flames spread became completely unusable.
Aykut Karakuş, an employee at a business located on the ground floor of the building affected by the fire, described what he experienced as follows: "We were sitting here when we suddenly started hearing a noise from the floor above. We suddenly saw pieces of fire falling onto the roof. We immediately went outside and realized that the wooden area was burning. Then we informed the fire department. The fire quickly spread to the side and back. Our friend was trapped, but the fire crews rescued him. We have no loss of life, but we have had some loss of property."
Police teams, who have taken security measures in the area, are continuing their investigation into the fire.
