No more shouting in local markets: A new era has begun

The era of vendors shouting slogans like "Come for the tomatoes, sister, juicy lemons, Diyarbakır watermelon, Çengelköy cucumbers" in the markets that are set up on certain days and visited by everyone for their shopping has come to an end.

Municipal police conducting inspections in Antalya's markets are warning vendors with announcements at certain hours of the day, stating, "Selling by shouting loudly is prohibited."

In addition to warning announcements, the municipal police, who patrol between the stalls to prevent vendors from selling by shouting in a way that disturbs people, also impose fines on vendors found to be non-compliant with rules regarding labels and pricing, stall boundaries, scales, and product weight.

WEIGHTS ARE BEING CHECKED

The municipal police, who pay attention to labels and pricing, scales, and product weight in the market areas in the Konyaaltı district, have placed scales at the market entrance. The scales, where shoppers can weigh and check the products they have purchased, have helped increase trust between vendors and customers.

Those who suspect the weight of the vegetables and fruits they have purchased check the weight of their bags on the scales and continue their shopping.

Those who find less product in their bags than the weight stated by the vendor file a complaint with the municipal police. Following the complaint, the customer's grievance is resolved, and a fine is imposed on the vendor.

3-WEEK BAN ON SETTING UP STALLS

Municipal police teams take legal action against vendors who act in violation of the market place regulations under Law No. 5957 on the Regulation of the Trade of Vegetables and Fruits and Other Goods with Sufficient Supply and Demand Depth, in accordance with the Misdemeanors Law No. 5326. If the product purchased is lower in weight than what the vendor stated, the municipal police issue a fine of 2,050 Turkish Lira to the vendor.

Vendors who shout slogans to boost their sales or disturb others with rhymes and songs are also fined 1,295 Turkish Lira.

If a vendor receives 3 fines for the same offense within a year, they are given a 3-week ban on setting up their stall.

During inspections, municipal police teams examine issues such as failure to display labels, non-compliance with stall boundaries, selling in a disturbing manner, fractional pricing, and weight deficiencies in scales and products sold.

In the district, 61 vendors have been fined this year for selling in violation of the rules.
