No release from court: Barış Pehlivan's hearing postponed
The case of journalist Barış Pehlivan, who is being held at Maltepe Open Prison and has been denied the right to supervised release, has been postponed to November 16.
Journalist Barış Pehlivan's hearing, in a case where he has been held at Maltepe Open Prison for 3 months without being granted the right to supervised release, began today.
MANY PEOPLE ATTENDED THE HEARING
Before the hearing, many journalists and citizens came to the Çağlayan Courthouse to support Pehlivan's "freedom case."
The lawyer for Ömer Faruk Aydıner, who filed a complaint against Pehlivan, announced that they were not withdrawing the complaint. Aydıner's lawyer stated, "Our complaint continues. We demand that the defendant be punished."
COURT DECIDES TO POSTPONE
The prosecution presented its opinion. In its opinion, it requested a sentence for journalist Barış Pehlivan.
Following the announcement of the opinion, Barış Pehlivan said, "If a sentence comes out of this case, you explain to us what topics we should write about. We would need to ask you!"
The court postponed the case to November 16, 2023. Those in the courtroom reacted to the judge.
''WHAT YOU ARE DOING HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH LAW OR CONSCIENCE''
Barış Pehlivan then used the following expressions:
“I am here because of a 4-5 paragraph article. Please make a decision. If necessary, give a sentence. Make a decision today. So many people have been waiting for 8 hours. I have not been a defendant before you for the first time. You are sending me back to prison. This is cruelty. What you are doing has nothing to do with law or conscience. Because you did not make a decision, because you did not read a total of 10 pages, I will go to prison tomorrow.”
