No release order for Can Atalay: Lawyers to continue protest
Following the Constitutional Court's (AYM) ruling of a rights violation, the court panel overseeing Can Atalay's case reviewed the decision, but no release order was issued.
The General Assembly of the Constitutional Court, in its meeting yesterday, reviewed the individual application of Can Atalay, who was elected as a member of parliament in the 28th Term Parliamentary General Elections held on May 14, after being sentenced to 18 years in prison in the Gezi Park trial.
CONSTITUTIONAL COURT HAD RULED FOR A VIOLATION
The High Court concluded that Atalay's rights to "be elected and engage in political activity" and "personal liberty and security" had been violated. The short-form decision of the Constitutional Court General Assembly was sent to the Istanbul 13th High Criminal Court for the removal of the rights violations.
NO RELEASE ORDER FROM THE COURT
The court panel that reviewed the Constitutional Court's decision left the courthouse again without issuing a release order. The lawyers, who had begun a sit-in protest, ended their action for the day with plans to meet at the same spot tomorrow.
