Non-prosecution decision for Rezan Epözdemir in 'espionage' investigation

The investigation into legal expert Rezan Epözdemir, who was detained on August 10 as part of allegations of "political and military espionage" and "aiding FETÖ," has concluded.

Following the investigation, the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office ruled that there were no grounds for prosecution against Epözdemir.

STATEMENT AFTER THE DECISION

In a statement following the non-prosecution decision, Epözdemir noted that the process began with a tip-off petition. Arguing that the aforementioned tip-off was baseless and amounted to slander, Epözdemir stated that he suffered grievances due to the suspicion cast upon him.

BASIS OF THE PROCESS

It was learned that the claim subject to the investigation was based on a photograph taken during a dinner in 2014.

In the photograph, Epözdemir was seen alongside the then-CHP Secretary General Gürsel Tekin and Dan Arbell, who was alleged to be an agent. However, information reflected in the file indicated that Arbell had produced programs for TRT for many years, and that Epözdemir had attended the dinner in question as an interpreter at the invitation of Gürsel Tekin.
