Nothing for retirees, farmers, or students! The only motion accepted by the People's Alliance

During the ongoing budget negotiations in the committees, all proposals concerning broad segments of society—from retirees struggling with the economic crisis to farmers, workers, women, and students—were rejected by AKP and MHP deputies.

The CHP has compiled a list of the motions rejected by the People's Alliance during the budget negotiations in the committee.

According to a report by Sözcü, some of the motions turned down in the committee are as follows:

DEMANDS FOR RETIREES REJECTED

• Increasing the lowest pension to the level of the minimum wage. (Required funding: 400 billion liras)
• Providing retirees with a bonus equal to the minimum wage during holidays.

NEGATIVE RESPONSE TO EXPECTATIONS IN EDUCATION

• Providing free school lunches to children who go to school on an empty stomach.
• Paying teachers a one-salary bonus at the beginning of the academic year and on November 24.
• Adding the necessary funds to the budget for teachers who have not been appointed.
• Meeting the cleaning, security, and health personnel needs of schools through the state.
• Doubling the scholarships for university students.

SUPPORT REQUESTED FOR FARMERS DID NOT PASS

• Providing farmers with fuel exempt from Special Consumption Tax (ÖTV) and Value Added Tax (KDV).
• Implementing agricultural support at a rate of 1 percent of the national income every year.
• Writing off farmers' debts of up to 600 thousand liras.
• Having the state pay the insurance premiums of women and young farmers in the agricultural sector.

PROPOSALS FOR LOW-INCOME INDIVIDUALS, TRADESPEOPLE, AND WORKERS REJECTED

• Providing 2 years of free electricity to families living in container cities after the earthquake.
• Providing 20 thousand liras in annual fuel assistance to poor families living in villages and towns, and 40 thousand liras to retirees and civil servants.
• Providing 10 billion liras in additional support to SMEs, tradespeople, and artisans.
• Having the state pay the debts of up to 400 thousand liras for tradespeople with an annual turnover of less than 2 million TL.
• Transitioning 20 thousand highway subcontracted workers to permanent staff status.

REGULATIONS THAT DO NOT TOUCH CONTRACTORS

• Allocating additional funds for stricter auditing of electricity distribution companies.
• Deducting 40 billion liras from the amount to be paid to city hospital contractors and redirecting it to public health.

AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan recently stated in a speech that Turkey has experienced its "golden years" in terms of women's rights during the AKP era. However, the proposals regarding women submitted to the committee were also rejected:

• Providing support from the budget to divorced women with children.
• Increasing the number of women's shelters.
• Providing free internet to households in need.
• Granting 2 million liras to 100 thousand women to strengthen women's cooperatives and entrepreneurship.
• Allocating 120 billion TL in funding to ensure that women who perform domestic labor but lack social security are considered insured and gain the right to retirement.

THE ONLY PROPOSAL ACCEPTED: A RAISE FOR HIGH-LEVEL BUREAUCRATS

The only motion the government accepted was its own regulation, which envisions a high pay raise for high-level bureaucrats. The regulation, which was said to be "withdrawn" following public backlash, will be discussed in the General Assembly on December 20. If the article is not withdrawn, the tea server, driver, and cook of the office will also benefit from the large raise to be given to the high-level official. These personnel will receive an additional payment of 44,800 liras. However, civil servants performing the same duties in other institutions will not be able to benefit from this right.

PAYMENT AMOUNT DOUBLES

If the regulation is enacted, the additional payment, which is currently 22,400 liras, will be increased to 44,800 liras. Thus, the additional payment of bureaucrats who receive a salary of 55,000 liras and an additional payment of 22,400 liras will be doubled. Together with the 11,000 lira collective bargaining increase to be made at the beginning of the year, the total salary will reach 110,800 TL.
