The trial continued for lawyer Serdar Öktem and former Ankara Murder Bureau Chief Mustafa Ensar Aykal, who are among the defendants in the assassination of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sinan Ateş, the former President of the Idealist Hearths (Ülkü Ocakları), who was murdered in the middle of Ankara; their files had been separated because they did not provide their phone passwords. Doğukan Çep, who is serving a life sentence for being the instigator of the Ateş assassination and who connected to the hearing via SEGBİS from the prison where he is being held to testify in favor of Serdar Öktem, this time threatened Çağrı Ünel, who is known for his closeness to Sinan Ateş and whose name was mentioned in the events in Mersin. Sinan Ateş's wife, Ayşe Ateş, stated that Doğukan Çep was sending messages to certain places and asked him to stop playing games and become a confessor, saying, "The killers in ties who had Sinan killed will have him killed too."

The Ateş family and their lawyers, along with only one of the defendants released pending trial, Mustafa Ensar Aykal, attended the second session of the case held at the Ankara 32nd High Criminal Court today.

At the beginning of the hearing, the senior member acting as the presiding judge read the documents that had arrived for the file, stating that no response had been received to the letter written to the USA regarding the phones, that one of the defendants in the Sinan Ateş assassination, Aşkın Mert Gelenbey, had requested to attend the hearing, and that it was requested that the case of 8 suspects, including the then-Deputy Chairman of the Idealist Hearths, Burak Kılıç, who are being tried at the Ankara 34th Criminal Court of First Instance on charges of "illegally obtaining personal data and protecting a criminal," be merged with this case.

Doğukan Çep, who was accepted to be heard as a witness in the first session on February 6 and was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment on charges of being the instigator of the Sinan Ateş assassination, connected to the hearing via SEGBİS from prison and explained that Serdar Öktem's mother and wife were pestering him, saying, "You burned Serdar, his career is gone," and spoke as follows:

"What did I do? The state took and carried him away. Serdar Öktem only acted as my lawyer. I am doing my final duty; I did not burn your son or your husband."

Following these words, Çep threatened Çağrı Ünel, the former Mersin Provincial President of the Idealist Hearths, who is known for his closeness to Sinan Ateş, was involved in the events in Mersin, and is currently in prison, by saying, "Even if he crawls into his mother's womb, I will find and pull him out."

Upon this, the acting presiding judge terminated Çep's SEGBİS connection and took the statements of the defendant Mustafa Ensar Aykal, the plaintiffs, and the lawyers of the parties.

While Mustafa Ensar Aykal stated that he reiterated his previous statements, Serdar Öktem's lawyer, Oğuzhan Bilgin, stated that the USA had provided the necessary response regarding his client and that the file was complete, requesting that Öktem be acquitted.

The late Sinan Ateş's wife, Ayşe Ateş, used the phrase "They have become toys in the hands of a drug dealer" regarding Doğukan Çep's statements and said the following:

"He is supposedly sending messages to certain places through Serdar Öktem. If we hadn't followed this case, he would have been killed inside. How long will he keep this game up? If he wants to stay alive, he should become a confessor. The field is not empty; we are behind our case. The killers in ties who had Sinan killed will have him killed too."

Sinan Ateş's sister, Selma Ateş, also said, "If we stub our toe, they are responsible," and listed the names of Ulvi İzzet Yönter, Semih Yalçın, Olcay Kılavuz, Ahmet Yiğit Yıldırım, Ömer Şanlı, and Burak Kılıç.

Mother Saniye Ateş stated that she was a complainant against the names listed by her daughter and asked, "Did my son destroy the state, or did he violate someone's honor?"

One of the Ateş family's lawyers, Şeyma Şahin, requested that the merger request in this case, which is divided into three, be accepted so that the files would be brought together. Drawing attention to the strangeness of the meeting between the family of the released Serdar Öktem and Doğukan Çep, Lawyer Şahin said that after requesting that the records of Çep's meetings in prison be brought, Öktem and Aykal should be arrested for not complying with the court's decision and violating the judicial control provisions.

Lawyer Fatih Güneş asked, "What business does Doğukan Çep have with Çağrı Ünel?" while Ayşe Ateş's lawyer, Hüseyin Kaya, spoke as follows:

"Serdar Öktem, about whom Doğukan Çep made statements, is not at the hearing. The court should put together Çep's petition and his speech and foresee what Doğukan Çep wants to say and what Serdar Öktem wants to hear. In the next session, the two whose intentions were not understood today should be brought face to face, and they should answer our questions."

Lawyer Süleyman Kavak also requested that the merger request of the 34th Criminal Court of First Instance be accepted and that an arrest warrant be issued for Serdar Öktem, who did not attend the hearing even though his request to be exempted was rejected, while asking how Doğukan Çep, who is in prison, met with Öktem's wife and mother outside of his first-degree relatives.

The lawyer for one of the defendants, Mustafa Ensar Aykal, Aziz Bingöl, said that his client had not repeatedly violated the judicial control provisions, that he only failed to go to sign in once during the Feast of Sacrifice, and that when this situation was reported, the Court decided to continue the judicial control.

Serdar Öktem's lawyer, Oğuzhan Bilgin, also stated that his client's residence address was in Istanbul, that they had previously requested to attend the hearing via SEGBİS, but that the court had not made any decision on this matter, and that he could not attend today's hearing due to health reasons, and that the document regarding this had been submitted.

After the statements were completed, the Prosecutor gave an opinion in the direction of waiting for the response to the letters written to the USA, rejecting the merger request, and continuing the judicial control measures of the defendants.
