Number of registered Syrians announced: Which province has the highest Syrian population revealed

According to the Istanbul Planning Agency (IPA), affiliated with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB), as of August 2024, there are 3 million 103 thousand 606 registered Syrians in Turkey. 530 thousand 217 of them live in Istanbul.

According to the IPA report, based on data from the Ministry of Interior's Presidency of Migration Management, a total of 72,896 migrant smugglers were apprehended between 2011 and 2024. The year with the highest number of migrant smuggling apprehensions was recorded as 2023, with 10,482.

HIGHEST NUMBER OF MIGRANTS ARE AFGHAN NATIONALS

When the distribution of irregular migrants apprehended between 2014 and August 2024 is examined by nationality, it was determined that the highest number of migrants were Afghan nationals, with 769,378 people. Afghan migrants were followed by Syrian migrants with 480,249 people.

According to data from the Ministry of Interior's Presidency of Migration Management, it was observed that there were 3,641,370 Syrians under temporary protection in Turkey in 2020, 3,535,898 in 2021, 3,214,780 in 2022, and as of August 1, 2024, there were 3 million 103 thousand 606 Syrians under temporary protection status.

MOST SYRIANS ARE IN ISTANBUL

According to the official figures of the Presidency of Migration Management, 530,217 Syrians live in Istanbul. It was observed that Istanbul was followed by the province of Gaziantep with 430,176. The ratio of the registered Syrian population to the total number of people living in Istanbul was found to be 3.28%.

In terms of age breakdown, it was observed that children and young people constitute a very large portion of Syrians under temporary protection. The number of Syrians between the ages of 0 and 14 was determined to be 1 million 322 thousand 226, those between 15-34 years old were 1 million 114 thousand 247, those between 35-44 years old were 336 thousand 941, those between 45-54 years old were 177 thousand 20, those between 55-64 years old were 100 thousand 846, and the Syrian population aged 65 and over was 52 thousand 326 people.

MOST TURKMEN RESIDE WITH RESIDENCE PERMITS

As of August 2024, it was observed that among foreigners in Turkey with residence permits, the nationality with the highest number was Turkmenistan with 112 thousand 43. This group is followed by foreign nationals from Russia with 94 thousand 44.

As of August 2024, it was observed that among foreigners in Turkey with short-term residence permits, those with the highest number were Iraqi nationals with 68 thousand 520 people. It was recorded that among foreigners in Turkey with family residence permits, those with the highest number were foreign nationals from Russia with 14 thousand 228 people.
