Number of visitors to Istanbul in the first 4 months of 2024 announced

The number of foreign visitors arriving in Istanbul increased by 9.94 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

Hosting 1 million 478 thousand 218 foreign visitors in April, an increase of 14.60 percent compared to the same month last year, Istanbul also became the locomotive of Turkish tourism.

In April, Istanbul was visited by 167 thousand 824 people from Russia, 109 thousand 202 people from Germany, 80 thousand 193 people from Iran, and 68 thousand 103 people from the USA.

The USA was followed by France with 62 thousand 404 people, the UK with 60 thousand 429 people, and Saudi Arabia with 42 thousand 59 people, respectively.

MOST PASSENGERS ARRIVED VIA ISTANBUL AIRPORT

In April, 1 million 63 thousand 35 foreign visitors arrived in Istanbul via Istanbul Airport. Istanbul Airport's share of the total number of foreign visitors arriving in Istanbul by air in April was 72.86 percent.

394 thousand 772 foreign visitors also entered through Sabiha Gökçen Airport last month.

Sabiha Gökçen Airport was the second border gate through which the most foreign visitors arrived in Istanbul. 27.06 percent of foreigners arriving in Istanbul by air used Sabiha Gökçen Airport.

19 THOUSAND 135 PEOPLE VISITED BY SEA

The number of foreign visitors arriving in Istanbul by air last month increased by 15.54 percent compared to the same month in 2023. The number of foreigners arriving in the city by sea was 19 thousand 135 in April.

According to the latest accommodation statistics published by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the total number of arrivals to Ministry-certified facilities in March of this year was 1 million 4 thousand 536.

While a total of 2 million 219 thousand 479 overnight stays were made in these facilities, the average length of stay was determined to be 2.21 days. The occupancy rate of accommodation facilities in Istanbul for March was 45.85 percent.
