Operation following school attacks! Akın Gürlek announced: 67 people targeting 54 schools are in custody

Stating that investigations into the school attacks that occurred in Şanlıurfa and Kahramanmaraş are ongoing, Akın Gürlek announced that the process is being carried out in a multi-faceted manner.

Gürlek stated that accounts sharing footage of the incidents despite the publication ban, spreading content that could create fear and panic in the public, and circulating misleading information have been identified. In this context, he reported that investigations have been launched against 130 account holders, 95 people have been taken into custody, efforts to apprehend 35 suspects are continuing, and access bans have been imposed on 1,104 social media accounts.

Drawing attention to posts targeting schools, Gürlek stated that 67 users who targeted 54 schools have been taken into custody and that judicial proceedings against them are ongoing.

Furthermore, noting that instructions have been given to relevant units against digital content that could lead children to violence, Gürlek noted that the process is being carried out nationwide by Chief Public Prosecutor's Offices in coordination with the relevant ministries.

“Investigations into the school attacks that occurred in our provinces of Şanlıurfa and Kahramanmaraş are being conducted in a multi-faceted manner by our Kahramanmaraş and Siverek Chief Public Prosecutor's Offices.

Numerous accounts have been identified that share footage of the incident despite the publication ban; spread content that could create fear, anxiety, and panic among the public; openly circulate misleading information aimed at discrediting official statements; and praise crime and criminals while encouraging the commission of crimes.

In this context, investigations have been launched against 130 account holders by our 55 Chief Public Prosecutor's Offices, and 95 people have been taken into custody. Efforts to apprehend 35 individuals are ongoing, and access bans have been imposed on 1,104 social media accounts.

In addition, accounts that created public anxiety with posts claiming that attacks would be carried out by targeting schools have been identified; within this framework, 67 users who targeted 54 schools have been taken into custody, and judicial proceedings against them are ongoing.

Instructions have also been given to the General Directorate of Security's Cyber Crimes Department by our Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office to identify and take measures against digital content and platforms that could lead our children to violence.

The process is being followed by our 171 Chief Public Prosecutor's Offices in our 81 provinces and is being carried out in coordination with our Ministry of Interior and our Ministry of National Education.”
