Osman Gökçek takes aim: The response came from CHP and DEM Party deputies!

A debate broke out during the group proposal submitted by the DEM Party to have their parliamentary research motion—aimed at uncovering the injustices experienced in the Gezi Park trial—prioritized over other motions for discussion.

During the speech given by DEM Party Antalya Deputy Hakkı Saruhan Oluç at the podium to explain the justification for the motion, AKP Ankara Deputy Osman Gökçek interrupted the proceedings.

“THOSE WHO RESISTED IN GEZI HAVE GONE NOWHERE”

Oluç reacted to Gökçek, who interrupted him at the podium. Oluç stated the following:

"The government carried out a heavy attack with the law enforcement forces at its disposal, and as a result of this attack, this disproportionate attack, 8 of our citizens lost their lives, 36 of our citizens lost their vision, and over 9 thousand of our citizens were injured. Do you remember the names of the Istanbul Governor and the Istanbul Police Chief of that time? Something is remembered about them; all those people who did all those things and stirred everything up were later tried for FETÖ links. Now, I don't know much about what they are doing, but their names have gone into the dustbin of history, while those who resisted in Gezi have gone nowhere and are continuing their struggle."

REACTION TO GÖKÇEK’S “GEZI IS A TERRORIST ACT” REMARKS

Gökçek, who interrupted the speech, said, "What was the demand? Tell us about the 3rd airport," to which Oluç replied, "Shut up. I have seen many like you in this Parliament." When Gökçek said, "Gezi is a terrorist act," Oluç reacted by saying, "Get out of here. This is not a place for buffoonery; this is the podium of the TBMM."

After Oluç completed his speech, Gökçek took the floor on the grounds of being targeted and spoke as follows:

"The Gezi Park protests are a terrorist act. Those who hung photographs of Abdullah Öcalan alongside photographs of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in Gezi Park, those who burned Turkish flags on Meşrutiyet Street, those who burned disabled vehicles in Ankara, those who tore up sidewalks and threw stones at people, those who plunged Turkey into a 100 billion dollar trouble, are talking to us about freedom. What were your demands in Gezi? Your first demand was that the airport should not be built. Currently, Istanbul Airport has become the 1st airport in Europe and the 7th in the world. Those who put explosives in Berkin Elvan's pocket and unleashed those children onto the streets are the foremost terrorists; know this very well. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan came to power with the votes of the nation; you attempted a coup against those who came to that position with the votes of the nation."

“HE COULD NOT SAY HE IS NOT A BUFFOON”

DEM Party Group Deputy Chairman Sezai Temelli reminded that Gökçek had taken the floor due to being targeted and said, "We called him a 'buffoon,' and he could not say 'I am not a buffoon.' Since he is a buffoon, it is impossible for him to understand Gezi anyway; our speaker will respond."

“THOSE WHO DEFEND FETÖ MEMBERS HAVE EMERGED”

Subsequently, Oluç expressed the following:

"I said it while speaking a moment ago. I specifically mentioned there that the Istanbul Governor and the Istanbul Police Chief had been tried for FETÖ links, just to see who would stand behind them and defend them. And there you have it, those who defend FETÖ members have emerged."

Gökçek, stating that he was returning the "buffoon" remark, said, "Of course, I do not want to stoop to this level, but if you are looking for a buffoon, you are the biggest buffoon. Aren't you the ones who come here and act as buffoons for terrorists like Mustafa Karasu and Duran Kalkan? I am saying, 'You are the biggest buffoon'."

“I DO NOT TAKE WHAT HE SAYS SERIOUSLY AT ALL”

Oluç replied, "Responding to such a low-level debate and such baseless allegations is neither in my nature nor in my capacity. Therefore, it needs to be swept aside. I do not take what he says seriously at all. Let it be on the record."

“A SLANDER WAS LEVELED AGAINST BERKIN ELVAN HERE A MOMENT AGO”

Speaking on behalf of the CHP Group, Diyarbakır Deputy Sezgin Tanrıkulu stated the following:

"In this parliament, instead of evaluating the sociological, political, and legal aspects of these events with common sense and drawing the right conclusions, we are unfortunately faced with troll logic and troll rhetoric here. This is disturbing for this parliament. A moment ago, a slander was leveled against Berkin Elvan here. I followed that trial from beginning to end. I consider it a lack of conscience that a child whom we buried at 15 years old and weighing 15 kilos, and who had nothing in his pocket according to court records, is being slandered from this podium. Even worse, as a citizen, I express here that I see the fact that this was applauded from the AKP benches as a great lack of conscience and as a malicious act."

The DEM Party's group proposal was rejected by the votes of AKP and MHP deputies.
