Over 200 criminal complaints from the İmamoğlu camp: Application filed with RTÜK

Lawyers for Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was arrested during the presidential election process, have taken action against content appearing in the media and on social media platforms.

It was reported that more than 200 criminal complaints have been filed by İmamoğlu's lawyers with the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK).

The majority of the criminal complaints were directed at broadcasts and commentary made by certain television channels and journalists following İmamoğlu's detention.

The lawyers alleged that these broadcasts contained statements that constituted an attack on İmamoğlu's personal rights and that he was targeted in a way that misled the public.

WHICH CHANNELS WERE COMPLAINED ABOUT

The applications prepared by the IMM legal unit were submitted to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK). It was stated that the media outlets against which criminal complaints were filed include broadcasting organizations such as A Haber, Akit TV and its website, Sabah Newspaper and its website, TGRT Haber, Ülke TV, and Kanal 24.

"PRESS ETHICS WERE VIOLATED”

In the statement made, it was said that "the language used in the broadcasts subject to the criminal complaints contradicts not only professional press principles but also legal rights and the judicial process." The lawyers noted that the broadcasts violated the presumption of innocence and harmed the integrity of the investigation, adding that they would continue to pursue the legal processes.
