Over 4,000 people detained as part of NATO Summit security in the capital

As Ankara prepares to host the NATO Leaders' Summit in July, strict inspections initiated to ensure the city's security have been maintained at a high level. Law enforcement officers increased security operations at various points across the capital between April 4 and July 1.

Police teams conducted meticulous checks at numerous businesses, primarily in areas heavily frequented by the public, including accommodation facilities, cafes and restaurants, entertainment venues, car rental companies, parking lots, and daily rental properties. During the same period, comprehensive operations held throughout the city saw the identities of a total of 1 million 500 thousand people checked, and nearly 930 thousand vehicles subjected to inspections.

As a result of the audits, more than 4,000 suspects with outstanding arrest warrants were apprehended by the police, and legal proceedings were initiated. Furthermore, during this process, public businesses and facilities were frequently visited, with special attention paid to whether security standards were being met.

To ensure the NATO Leaders' Summit can be held securely in Ankara, security units announced that new measures are on the agenda and that inspections will continue uninterrupted until after the summit.
