Owner of building that collapsed in Balıkesir earthquake arrested
The owner of a four-story building that collapsed following the earthquake in Sındırgı, Balıkesir, has been arrested.
Following the 6.1 magnitude earthquake that occurred in the Sındırgı district the day before yesterday, the police procedures for the building's contractor, S.S., and its owner, I.E.K., who were detained in connection with the collapse of the 4-story building located across from the District Governor's Office in the Camikebir neighborhood, have been completed.
The suspects were referred to the Sındırgı Courthouse following health checks.
BUILDING OWNER ARRESTED
Building owner I.E.K. was arrested by the judge on duty, while the contractor, S.S., was released under the judicial measure of house arrest.
In the 6.1 magnitude earthquake that occurred in the Sındırgı district of Balıkesir on August 10, the 4-story building across from the District Governor's Office collapsed; 2 people escaped on their own, and 4 others were rescued by search and rescue teams. Among those rescued, 81-year-old Nihat Önbaş lost his life at the hospital where he was taken by medical personnel.
