Özgür Çelik announces cancellation of Silivri gathering: 'In order not to legitimize arbitrariness'
CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik announced in a statement on his social media account that the support gathering planned to be held in Silivri tomorrow has been cancelled.
The venue for the expert witness trial in which Ekrem İmamoğlu is being tried was changed 24 hours before the hearing. The hearing was moved from Çağlayan to Silivri.
In response to this development, İmamoğlu and his lawyers decided not to attend the hearing, deeming the decision an "unlawful procedure."
Following this decision by İmamoğlu, the support gathering planned to be held in Silivri tomorrow was also cancelled.
CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik announced the decision on his social media account.
"WE WILL STAND BEHIND THIS DECISION"
Özgür Çelik stated the following:
"We have been experiencing all kinds of lawlessness for a long time.
The latest example of arbitrary practices tailored to individuals was the change of the venue for our Mayor Ekrem's hearing, scheduled for June 12, just 24 hours before it was set to take place.
The joint decision of our Mayor Ekrem and his lawyers was not to attend the hearing in protest of this arbitrary practice.
We will also stand behind this decision. We will not attend the hearing in order not to legitimize this arbitrariness.
The support gathering to be held in Silivri tomorrow has also been cancelled within this scope."
