Özgür Çelik: İmamoğlu will address Istanbul and Turkey from Maltepe

As reactions pour in following the decision to revoke the diploma announced by Istanbul University in the evening, the statements made by the CHP are also being closely followed.

While there is curiosity about the steps to be taken from here on, an important assessment came from CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik.

Here are the highlights from Özgür Çelik's statements on the live broadcast of Halktv:

"They are trying to cover up the real problems of society; they want to intimidate and silence society; they want to build a wall of fear.

They want to design the upcoming political process with the stick of the judiciary! They are trying to prevent us from setting up the ballot box on March 23 and determining our presidential candidate.

I invite our citizens to the ballot boxes to vote or to show their support. We had an opening ceremony planned in Maltepe, but we will turn this into a speech where Mayor Ekrem will address the citizens. He will make a speech today that will reach all of Istanbul and Turkey.

We will also have a speech at the Haliç Congress Center on Saturday, and we expect great participation there as well.

On March 23, we will choose our presidential candidate and show that we do not recognize the unlawful rules they have adopted!

We want everyone who stands for democracy to provide their support!

Today, our Chairman will convene the Central Executive Board (MYK) for a meeting and will make a statement afterward.

We are facing a government that uses the judiciary as a weapon; we are going through a process where the rule of law is ignored and democracy is suspended.

They are doing everything they can to prevent us from setting up the ballot box on March 23; they want us to cancel our planned events; they are trying to hinder municipal services; they want the CHP not to stand by the poor, and for municipalities not to provide their services...

We will not deviate from our plans for this weekend; we have a call to announce our meetings to wider audiences...

Our Chairman will hold the MYK meeting and will then announce the steps we will take!

We will wage the most democratic struggle through democratic methods, and our Chairman, Mr. Özgür Özel, will share our roadmap as soon as possible..."
