Özgür Özel on the party convention and group meeting: He announced the required number of signatures

Following the absolute nullity decision within the CHP, all eyes have turned to the party convention and the group meeting planned for tomorrow.

CHP's elected Chairman Özgür Özel made statements to journalists at the Turkish Grand National Assembly regarding the matter.

Regarding the extraordinary convention, Özel stated, "The collection of signatures from delegates for the convention has begun; there is a need for slightly over 550 signatures."

Announcing that the group meeting will be held tomorrow, Özel said, "As noted by prominent legal experts, the injunction does not prevent the convention; we will hold the group meeting tomorrow."

Highlights from Özel's speech are as follows:

Today, as previously announced by our party spokesperson, the process of collecting signatures for an extraordinary convention has been initiated. The first signature came from our Kayseri delegate a few minutes past eight in the morning, with the note: 'The first sale from Kayseri, the abundance from God.' This process, as a symbolic signature, came from our Kayseri delegate who said, 'It is necessary to resist together against this unjust coup that insults the will of the convention and respects those who are elected,' even though they were against us in the last convention, did not vote for us, and were in harsh opposition to us in Kayseri.

"SIGNATURES ARE BEING COLLECTED RAPIDLY FROM ALL OVER TURKEY"

Following that, all signatures from Rize were completed 10 minutes later. Signatures are being collected rapidly from all over Turkey. We have not given ours yet; we, as members of parliament, have not yet entered the process of giving signatures. We will first collect the signatures of our organization.

In a few days, I suppose, rapidly... This delegate had given signatures twice before, came, and by standing behind their chairman and the chairman's key list with all valid votes, gave a message of struggle and solidarity during a difficult process. The signatures given today are also an attitude that prioritizes not taking a side in the party, but being on the side of the party together. It is very valuable. I thank all our delegate friends.

"WE WANT TO PROCEED BY MAKING OUR APPLICATION"

Friends say there is a need for slightly over 550 signatures. This number will, of course, be collected very quickly. But we want to proceed by making our application regarding this convention with the highest possible number of signatures, without too much delay.

Because it is not right for the party that brought the ballot box to Turkey to be governed without a ballot box result within itself. It is hurting our party deeply, and it is hurting the country deeply."
