Özgür Özel reveals the offer made to İmamoğlu for the first time! 'They told Ekrem Bey repeatedly...'

CHP's elected Chairman Özgür Özel made statements regarding the current agenda during a meeting with members of the press at the TBMM. Özel publicly shared an allegation for the first time concerning the imprisoned Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and his party's presidential candidate, Ekrem İmamoğlu.

Stating that İmamoğlu's removal from office would not facilitate his expulsion from the party, Özel said that after Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu was arrested, he visited İmamoğlu's family and later met with him in prison.

“THEY OFFERED HIM THE CHAIRMANSHIP”

Özel used the following expressions in his statement:

"Ekrem İmamoğlu is the elected mayor. His removal from office does not facilitate his expulsion from the party. When Ekrem İmamoğlu was arrested, one of the first people to visit his wife was Kemal Bey. They visited Ekrem Bey in prison. They told Ekrem Bey repeatedly, ‘Let’s be together. Let’s exclude Özgür Bey. Let’s be one. Let’s take down Özgür Bey.’ They offered Ekrem Bey the chairmanship while he was in prison. We set up a ballot box for Ekrem Bey, and they voted. In those days, the pro-government media were saying that footage of money related to Ekrem Bey would emerge, that millions of euros would be found under the parquet flooring, that there was money in bags, and that a safe buried somewhere was being searched.

While these things were being said back then and there was no indictment, Ekrem, who was innocent, is now being called a thief—what happened? If you were going to say these things, you should have said them when the operation was launched. That would be taking a stance, in its own way. I think it is shameful. But it would be consistent. Back then, there was slander everywhere. Now, as the indictment is being dismantled, some are following in the footsteps of A Haber and TGRT. It is not something that should happen.”

SNAP ELECTION STATEMENT

Özgür Özel also responded to a question regarding the possibility of an early or snap election. Stating that he would support a decision for an election if it were taken in November, Özel said, “If they are going to hold a snap election in November, I will be the first to vote for it in Parliament. We will put forward our candidate, and we will change the president.”
