Özgür Özel shares pointed post on anniversary of February 6 earthquake disaster

Adding a note to the video he shared, Özgür Özel also made a reference to the speech given by AKP Chairman and President Erdoğan in Hatay, stating, "Our pain has never been divided."

"OUR PAIN HAS NEVER BEEN DIVIDED"

In his message, Özel said, “It has been a year, yet it feels like yesterday. I feel as if I have lost thousands of mothers, thousands of fathers, thousands of friends, children, and companions. Our pain has never been divided... We will always try to heal together. May all the souls we lost rest in peace.”

The video began with the words heard over a radio transmission: “Many buildings are collapsed in Beyazıtlı Neighborhood. Aftershocks are still continuing. Center; Ebrar Sitesi. The building has collapsed.” Later in the video, a news anchor's words were included: “Today is February 6, 2023, it is Monday. A difficult morning, a heavy morning.”

The words of an earthquake survivor, “Where is the crisis management? Where? They all died, all the children died,” were also included in the video.

The video featured the statement made by AKP Chairman and President Erdoğan last weekend in Hatay, “If the central government and local government do not join hands, if they are not in solidarity, nothing will come to that city,” followed by Özgür Özel’s response during his group meeting at the Turkish Grand National Assembly: “In the first week after the earthquake, we saw an incredible lack of coordination in Turkey, an arrogance bordering on betrayal, fear, and the great losses caused by the decisions taken.”

The rest of the video described the aid provided to the earthquake zone by the Metropolitan Municipalities of Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Eskişehir, Antalya, Muğla, Adana, Tekirdağ, and Mersin, and included a photograph of a poster that read, “One morning the sun will rise. We will rebuild this city with bricks of love.”

The following was recorded in the video:

“There was a way. From Istanbul to Hatay, from Ankara to Maraş, from Izmir to Malatya, Adıyaman, Antep... Stretching from many to many. There was a way to heal. A path that goes through unity. After all, that is what we did. We shared the pain together. We reached out to the wounds together.

We leaned on each other to stand tall. We tried to heal everywhere, night and day. After all, there was no other way. A friendly city was needed right beside us, a friendly hand was needed right beside us. That is what we did. With a solidarity overflowing from a thousand shoulders, we are always side by side, always together on this path.”

The video concluded with the words, “We commemorate all the souls we lost in the February 6 earthquakes with mercy.”
