Özgür Özel speaks at the Eid celebration in Saraçhane: 'Erdoğan has gotten off the democracy train'

Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel spoke at the Eid al-Fitr celebration ceremony held at Saraçhane Square in Istanbul.

Drawing attention to the operation process targeting Ekrem İmamoğlu, Özel directed harsh criticisms at the government.

He explained his decision to hold the celebration in Istanbul instead of Ankara this year with the following words:

'Since we have no business in this process with the People's Alliance, which has stripped the holiday of its spirit... we met in Saraçhane for the celebration we are holding with our members to embrace all of Turkey's democrats.'

'THEY HAVE NO PLACE IN THE NATION'S HEART'

Touching upon the success in the March 31, 2024 elections, Özel emphasized that the CHP is the only party to have won provincial municipalities in all 7 regions of Turkey.

Özel stated, “Those who told us ‘You cannot go east of Sivas’ could not show any presence in any province in the Aegean. They no longer have a place in the nation's heart.”

Accusing the AKP of attempting a 'civil coup' following its failure in the election, Özel expressed the following:

'While the AKP lost its invincibility on March 31, the Republican People's Party shattered this invisible glass ceiling of 25%'

'ERDOĞAN HAS GOTTEN OFF THE DEMOCRACY TRAIN'

In his speech, Özgür Özel targeted AKP Chairman and President Erdoğan:

'Tayyip Erdoğan has realized that he can no longer take Saraçhane and has attempted to appoint a trustee here... He has attempted to stage a coup... against the president who will succeed him.'

Accusing Erdoğan of stepping outside the boundaries of democratic legitimacy, Özel said, 'Tayyip Erdoğan has set out to be a junta leader. He is now a junta leader.'

Drawing attention to the moral superiority of the opposition, Özel stated, “The psychological pressure is on the AK Party members who cannot defend Erdoğan's policies and remain silent... The moral superiority, however, is with us, my brothers and sisters.”
