Özgür Özel's striking 'early election' and Erdoğan remarks! 'Within the last year...'

Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel made statements to the newly launched Nefes Gazetesi.

"THE CITIZENS WILL SHAKE THEM OFF THEIR BACKS IN THE FIRST ELECTION"

Regarding the blocking of CHP-run municipal accounts due to Social Security Institution (SGK) debts following AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's instruction to "shake the municipalities," Özel said, "What is being attempted to be seized today is the milk distributed to children, the lunchbox of a child going to school, natural gas support, meat support, the mother card, daycare..."

Pointing to Erdoğan's 'shake' instruction, Özel used the expressions, "He is trying to shake the municipalities he cannot reach. The citizens will shake them off their backs in the first election."

"NO SIGNATURE FOR AN EARLY ELECTION CALL WITHIN THE LAST YEAR"

Özel also shared his view regarding the possibility of an early election:

"They say the election will be on time. This means Erdoğan cannot be a candidate. Erdoğan is already not the AKP's candidate, but the MHP's candidate. He keeps saying, 'Let's release Apo, let's make a new Constitution.' 'And in the meantime, let's re-elect Erdoğan.' If he calls for an early election within the last year, the CHP will not sign off on an early election decision. Others may sign, but we will not."

"WE HAVE NO INTENTION OF COATING POISON WITH SUGAR"

Özel also responded to a question about how they would act if the government were to say, "Let's switch to a parliamentary system," in response:

"Let him bring and put the ballot box immediately. Let us form a new Parliament, and let us discuss the parliamentary system in that Parliament. It doesn't happen just by saying 'let's sit at the Constitution table.' I might sit, but the millions who voted for me will not. We have no intention of coating poison with sugar. There is only one condition for making a Constitution with Erdoğan. Let the unconstitutionalities from A to Z be eliminated, then we can sit and talk."
