Özgür Özel vows to 'quit politics' if he fails
CHP leader Özgür Özel stated that he would quit politics if his party does not finish first in the next election.
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel made assessments regarding the current agenda at the 17th International Arguvan Folk Song Festival.
Responding to questions from Vahap Munyar of Ekonomi, Özel stated that if they do not emerge as the first party in the upcoming elections, he will quit politics that very night.
Özel noted that in recent months, there has been a perception among citizens that "if the CHP comes to power, the economy will improve and they will make us a full member of the EU," and added the following:
"We have an understanding of institutionalization, self-audit, and measurable management.
We asked your colleagues, 'What is the CHP doing wrong?' We tried to understand our mistakes. We took care not to repeat them.
If we cannot emerge as the first party in the elections, I will quit politics that night. I believe that one should even abandon the songs of a lost election. Indeed, in the local elections, we left behind songs that had been used before.
The most macro need is 'A Turkey without bans, a Europe without visas'... As the CHP, we will touch the citizens' 'hope for the future'."
Özel continued as follows:
"We will strongly create the perception among citizens that 'if the CHP comes, it can manage the country.' We want citizens to think, 'If the CHP comes to power, tensions will decrease.' We aim for them to believe that the CHP can be more successful in foreign policy."
