Özgür Özel was elected Chairman: Investigation into CHP's 38th Ordinary Congress!

A notable development has occurred regarding the CHP's 38th Ordinary Congress, held at the Ankara Sports Hall on November 4-5, 2023, where Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu handed over the chairmanship to Özgür Özel.

According to a report by KRT, an investigation has been launched into the congress by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.

The statement issued by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office included the following remarks:

'KILIÇDAROĞLU AND HAMZAÇEBİ SUMMONED TO TESTIFY'

"Following a report made to the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office alleging that 'votes were cast in exchange for money on the day of the congress' during the Republican People's Party Congress held in Ankara, and the subsequent transfer of the documents to our Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office due to lack of jurisdiction, an investigation was initiated by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office in January 2024.

Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and Akif Hamzaçebi have been summoned to testify as witnesses due to the statements they made in the press and on social media regarding the incident subject to the investigation. The investigation is being conducted meticulously.

President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had previously alleged 'irregularities' regarding the congress in question.

Former CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, in a broadcast he participated in on KRT, had used the phrase "Silence implies consent" in response to this claim.

The chairmanship election held on the first day of the congress (November 4) was won by Özgür Özel, the Manisa deputy and the party's group chairman.

Özel was elected chairman in the second round of the election by receiving the votes of 812 delegates (59.44 percent).
